Asian Superyacht Market Boom
The market for superyachts in the Asia-Pacific region could be worth around $350 – $500 million a year, according to the Superyacht Singapore Association. The increase in ownership has been largely due to a steady and rapid growth in the economies of China, India and other emerging Asian markets. The first Singapore Yacht Show was launched this year, bringing a whole new focus to the market and a major boost to the local and regional yachting industries.
The coastal areas around Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and China are becoming increasingly popular cruising waters for the high net worth individuals of Asia. Offering an enchanting blend of diverse, exotic cultures and a stunning natural beauty, the area is becoming more popular each year. There are lots of opportunities for the intrepid to explore off the beaten track, along with lush tropical islands, exotic food, diving and bright sandy beaches.
All the main types of leisure craft are now available for charter in Asia: motor yachts, sailing boats, bareboat charters, skippered and crewed yachts, catamarans, power boats, luxury yachts and of course super yachts. International events such as the Clipper Round the World Race and the China Cup International bring interest and publicity for this emerging industry, and are supported by governments.
